Webflow Google Analytics: From Setup to Syncing

Introduction

If you're a business owner who's never used Google Analytics before and are looking to integrate Google Analytics to your Webflow site, this article is for you. Google Analytics is a powerful tool for tracking all sorts of user behavior, from average time on site to bounce rate, number of key events taken to page visits to various helpful user demographics.

To gain access to this insightful information, all you need to do is create a Google Analytics account and link your "G-" ID (i.e., measurement ID) to your Webflow site, and voila, you can gain access to a stream of relevant digital analytics.

Creating a Google Analytics Account

Luckily, Google has published a host of helpful articles for business owners trying to gain their footing (and garner visibility) on the search engine, including an article about how to create a Google Analytics account. I'll break it down here for first time users.

  1. Create an Account
    • Go to https://analytics.google.com.
    • Click "Start Measuring."
    • Click the "Admin" button on the bottom-left corner of your screen, click "Create," then select "Account."
    • Give your account a name (e.g. "[my business name]).
    • Read the Account Data Sharing Settings and click off which information you are comfortable sharing with Google.
    • Click Next.
  2. Create a Property (in Google Analytics, you can have multiple properties under a single account. Properties are specific websites, apps, or other digital assets you want to track. Think of properties as compartments of a closet. Each compartment contains information for a different asset, yet they are all inside a single closet (i.e., an account).
    • Give your property a name (i.e., [my business name, website]).
    • Select your time zone and currency.
    • Click Next. Select your industry category and business size.
    • Click Next. Select how you intend to use Google Analytics. Tip: Think about this question for a little bit. The checkboxes Google provides will determine how they will measure, structure, and offer information. Clicking "Generate Leads" will prioritize information regarding contact forms and quote forms, while "View User Engagement or Rentention" will give you more general information about how users engage with your website pages.
  1. Click Create and accept the Analytics Terms of Service and the Data Processing Amendment.
  2. Add a Data Stream (A Data Stream is the particular website or app you will link to your property. It is the stream you are planning on "tracking" with Google Analytics).
    • Click Add Stream and select "Web."
    • Type in your website URL and make sure the URL exactly matches your site's homepage.
    • Create a Stream Name.
    • Click "Create and Continue."
